The Nigerian University Carnival (TNUC) is a Brain child of JHELP Concepts (Comely Nation). The carnival will be the first Cancer Awareness University Carnival in the World. It is a project anchored on Cancer awareness as different Universities will be floating the banners & awareness materials of different Cancerous diseases such as Bladder Cancer, Lung Cancer, Brain Cancer, Melanoma, Breast Cancer, Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, Cervical Cancer, Ovarian Cancer, Colorectal Cancer, Pancreatic Cancer, Esophageal Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Kidney Cancer, Skin Cancer, Leukemia, Thyroid Cancer, Liver Cancer, Uterine Cancer, Etc.
Cancer is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. Possible signs and symptoms include a lump, abnormal bleeding, prolonged cough, unexplained weight loss and a change in bowel movements. While these symptoms may indicate cancer, they may have other causes. There are over 100 types of cancers which affect humans.
There are risk factors associated with the Cancer disease but the major problem is that a large number of people still have little or no knowledge about these factors. There is also a wide misconception that the disease cannot be averted but it is in fact 70% preventable; through maintaining a healthy weight, not drinking too much alcohol, avoiding smoking of tobacco, eating plenty of vegetables/ fruits, vaccination against certain infectious diseases, not eating too much red meat, and avoiding too much sunlight exposure.
It is due to these troubling statistics and visibly wide information gap that Comely Nation (organizers of The Nigerian University Carnival) in support with Federal ministry of information & Culture aims to launch an exhaustive campaign against this disease in The Nigerian University Carnival.
